Position work includes footwork, releases, route stems, run tracks, coverage transitions, and ball skills. We use tennis-ball reaction drills and football catches to train tracking, hand-eye coordination, late hands, hand placement, and the ability to finish catches outside the frame.
Emphasizing quick-game catches, over-the-shoulder tracking, low and away throws, high-point catches, catches through contact, and the transition from catch to tuck. Defensive players also train locating the ball, playing through the receiver’s hands, and finishing interceptions. The goal is strong hands and clean ball skills without sacrificing body position or speed.
